Itinerary and highlights
We take a vehicle tour of terraced roads in Punta Sur, enjoying the natural landscapes while learning about the fauna of the island and the mangrove ecosystem. We visited the crocodile lagoon and continued to the lighthouse. For those looking for a little adventure, it is possible to climb to the top of the lighthouse and enjoy the view. We also visited the small museum within the ecological park to learn more about the history of the island and its early settlements.
We visit San Gervasio, the most important Mayan archaeological site on the island. We walk through the ruins and trails surrounded by jungle as we learn about the site’s history, cultural importance and connection to the Mayan goddess Ixchel. The tour is quiet and unhurried, with enough time to explore and understand the surroundings.
The certified federal guide is not included, but can be hired as an additional service for those who want a deeper archaeological explanation.
